Jib Crane

What Is A Jib Crane?

A jib crane is an elevated arm that extends outward in a horizontal direction from a central point and is able to rotate around this central point. The arm is mounted either on a freestanding post, to an existing column in a factory or to a suitable wall. Normally the arm can rotate 270° however this can be extended to 360° if required. Depending on your requirements, the rotation can be either manual or powered rotation of the jib arm. The jib arm will have a moving trolley that can be moved by pushing it manually or it can be powered. Attached to the trolley will be the hoist of your choice which will carry out the lifting process.  Extremely simple to use, smaller jib cranes have a manual trolley and are also slewed manually. Larger capacity cranes use electric or air motors to drive the trolley & slewing action.

Improving Process

Using cranes and hoist systems like the jib or gantry crane can significantly boost workplace production while simultaneously improving safety. Jib cranes are designed to perform repetitive lifts efficiently. They are ideal for small spaces, like warehouses and product assembly or packing areas.  Our steel and aluminium jib cranes are found extensively in the fabrication, manufacturing and maintenance sectors. Combined with vacuum lifting technology, they are a sound ergonomic investment into your business operations and dramatically reduce the risk to your employees.

Considering a Jib Crane? Here’s what you should take into account:

  • Your budget
  • The required area of rotation of your jib crane – freestanding offers up to 270º as standard, this can be reduced or increased if required.
  • The distance between the floor and the jib arm
  • The overall height of the crane
  • Indoor or outdoor usage
  • Whether you want your crane hoist to be electric, vacuum or air-powered
